iPhone vs. HTC (Updated)

This is swaying away from anime and cons for a bit.

After obtaining an iPhone (without waiting in line on June 29), it was already a disappointment for current AT&T wireless users. The iPhone includes the usual accessories with iPod connector, dock, headphones, USB ac adapter, a 3G SIM card already in the phone, and the iPhone itself. Like many Apple products it comes in a nice package that is placed in a specialty shopping bag (with the rate plans in them).

iPhone vs. the HTC Hermes 100 aka. Cingular 8525 aka. AT&T 8525 (Similar to many HTC phones on all carriers).

So far the phone is again a disappointment to iPhone owners because customers MUST sign some sort of 2 year contract, whether they are a customer or not. Activation is a simple process, a no brainer can do, as long the customer has a credit card and social security number (using iTunes 7.3). This is expected from a MAC user. Preliminary checks show the status of the iPhone will be returned to the Apple store on Monday as well as the cancellation of the service plan.

Regarding the customer must sign add a contract, they must do so even if customers already have a SIM card they want to use. You cannot use any cell phone features with out activating it through iTunes 7.3 (or higher). An owner cannot use the iPhone at all if the iPhone has not been activated yet.

Haruhi – Max Factory

Alright! So after one mess up from the source and three months down the road, I finally got a hold of a Max Factory Haruhi Suzumiya in her school uniform. This model, by Max Factory, includes the completed and assembled model, a second hand (holding a megaphone), a second arm band for her, and a base stand.

Newtype Magazine (Japan)

Man talk about free next day delivery. Today I had to pick my dad up from the airport (returning from his trip to Vietnam) and after helping him unload all the luggage into the house, he said to me, “There’s a book with a DVD in it and I don’t know what it is, I just got it at the airport, so check it out.” In confusion, I just thought it was some tourist book for Japan with a DVD about Japan (I never ask for anything when someone goes on a trip). After he gave it to me, I was like, “Okay there are anime characters on it” (I was looking at the back cover). Then I realized in the upper left corner of the back cover was the word, Newtype. Immediately I flipped the magazine, located the issue date (July 2007), and started browsing and in amazement, I was laughing inside. My dad asked if it was a good magazine and I explained to him YES and why it’s even better because translated Japanese products are a complete rip off. What made it even better was he said he didn’t pay more than $5 for the magazine (¥590 or about $4.77), which of course is good compared to the $12.95 for the American Newtype Magazine.

This issue of Newtype includes the usual material from Newtype, including reviews, upcoming animes, posters, a DVD with a full length anime, and go pick up a magazine to know what else is there. (Disclaimer: I will try to avoid being a weaboo). In this issue, one of the special material in the magazine is a small magazine comic called Kobato.

Kobato is a young girl that for unknown reasons, needs to fill a mysterious bottle with the feelings of people with a heart in pain, for that she needs to “Cure” other people’s hearts and make them happy, but this could become even more difficult than she thought. Her companion for this task is a grumpy plush dog she calls Ioryogi-san” (Anime News Network)

Some of the reviews or previews, however you look at it, include Darker Than Black, Heroic Age, Idol Master Xenoglossia, an Evangelion movie coming up, Stranger’s Sword, Nanatsuiro Drops (coming 2 July 2007), Musiuta (2 July 2007), Clannad, and a lot more.

The special DVD is an episode of Code Geass is included and a Lucky Star poster for the poster tradition.

There are a ton of things in the magazine; however, Newtype would probably call for a lawsuit.

This year’s Animazement is their 10th annual (dubbed the Platinum Edition during the handing out of prizes for the AMVs). This convention continues to be known to have the most Japanese Guest of Honor on the east coast, bringing in even more guests than previous years. Probably one of the well known guest is the voice actress for Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess, Kikuko Inoue and the Japanese voice for Chidori in Full Metal Panic, Satsuki Yukino. Animazement continues their tradition of bringing the usual events to the convention, including: the Masquerade, 2 night dance, Anime Hell, the Musical, and more.

Griffin – Saber

By: quadrain | June 1, 2007 on 1:05 am | Category: Figures | 2 Comments

So a friend of mine bugged me to get a Saber figure that was 30% off. Why was it 30% off, I seriously don’t know. So being a tired college student, at the time, I ordered it, and then a random package from Japan arrived at my door right before I left for Animazement. Be-hold, it’s Saber from Fate/Hollow Atraxia in a two-piece bikini holding a beach ball.
