Virginia International Raceway - Holiday Laps
December 16, 2005
Virginia International Raceway - Alton, Virginia
The Virginia International Raceway Club hosted the 2005 Holiday Laps to raise money with their local radio for the Danville, VA Salvation Army to collect canned foods, toys, or cash, but any donation had to be a $25 equivalent donation. With the $25 donation however lets you drive your vehicle onto the race track in a parade style convoy following the track's pace car for 30 minutes in groups of 20 or so. Although following the pace car around 45-60 mph sounded pretty dawdling, just don't think that since it didn't matter how fast you went, it was an exuberance to brace the turns on the corners (even if I was the passenger in a friend's Nissan 300ZX). To make things even better, trying to keep up with the pack was pretty interesting too having to speed up to 90 mph at times on the track trying to follow the vehicles ahead of you. All different types, kinds, and models attended this event, ranging from stock sedans to high end sport cars. Need fuel? I myself don't know if they sell it to the public but there were commercial pumps serving race fuel with Octane of 112 and beyond for sale starting at 5.90 per gallon.
